McConnell-Doidge Week 13

This week felt very busy. It felt like I was stretched very thin and as I sit here and type my blog for the week I am feeling pretty burnt out. I had another 2 interviews this week, making that 5 interviews in 10 days, which has been exhausting, to say the least. Even though I felt like they were asking very similar questions today I just felt it very hard to give focused answers and feel like I was answering the questions well. It's not a good feeling but I just felt off today. As I sit back and reflect on all I have had going on while student teaching it just seems like life has been at turbo speed these past few months. I am a number one a Mom, a wife, a teacher, a trainer, a group exercise instructor, I work a fitness desk at my other job, I'm a student and as I think about the fact that on any given day I am all of those things I wonder how I have managed. Life truly has been crazy.
When it comes to PE it can be very up in the air as far as weather and whether or not we can be inside or outside. We are currently working on Frisbee, and for Monday and Tuesday classes we were able to go outside with having beautiful weather which was awesome. The kids loved the chance to be outside and frisbee is a great way to get everyone involved. However, the rest of the week consisted of us being inside. With the collaboration of myself and my cooperating teacher, we came up with a game to play frisbee inside called "Frisbee Bocce" which combined Frisbee and Bocce Ball. We turned it into a king/queen of the court tournament having 8 courts where students rotated based off if they won or lost. In this game, throws were assigned different point values based off of where the frisbee landed and they had to add up their team points after each round. This game got everyone involved including those students who are considered diverse learners. Standard 1 - Teaching Diverse students- The competent teacher understands the diverse characteristics and abilities of each student and how individuals develop and learn within the context of their social, economic, cultural, linguistic, and academic experiences. The teacher uses these experiences to create instructional opportunities that maximize student learning. I had many paras come up to me to tell me what a great game it was, and how awesome it was that it was a game that allowed everyone to have fun and experience success. Seeing my students being excited about what we are learning, and being able to grow in a skill is so rewarding.
One thing I found myself saying during interviews is that I couldn't imagine being any other kind of teacher but PE. I find myself totally geeking out over all thing physical education, and truly love what I do. I am loving the collaboration between myself and my cooperating teacher. I can come up with an idea for a lesson, and he helps me to figure out the best way to execute it based off of his experience and logistically what would work best. Every lesson that I have done so far in my second placement he has added to his video showcase that he shows to students at the beginning of the year, which I think is really cool that he has liked my ideas.Standard 8 - Collaborative Relationships – The competent teacher builds and maintains collaborative relationships to foster cognitive, linguistic, physical, and social and emotional development. This teacher works as a team member with professional colleagues, students, parents or guardians, and community members.
