McConnell-Doidge Week 3

Wow! I can't believe week 3 has already come to an end, time is really flying by. This week I feel like I finally fell into a groove and really got comfortable with a routine and my environment, and even though it's not permanent a feeling like "i belong" has really set in with me. This week I felt myself building relationships with my team, and using them as resources to ask questions and grow in this experience. This brought me to  Standard 8 - Collaborative Relationships – The competent teacher builds and maintains collaborative relationships to foster cognitive, linguistic, physical, and social and emotional development. This teacher works as a team member with professional colleagues, students, parents or guardians, and community members. I had my first team meeting this week during our late start on Wednesday. Each teacher presented their smart goals to the rest of the group. It was interesting to hear about how each group planned and implem...

McConnell-Doidge: Week 2

This week allowed me my first opportunity to teach. Monday was the day the students would be running the pacer. My cooperating teacher was out sick, but each class was able to "run" without a hitch. On Tuesday, the students started the first day of the basketball unit. Instead of students being lead through skills and drills on day 1. All the classes handled this very well and it gave me a good idea for going into the next basketball lesson.           Every Wednesday freshman are either in the weight room or fitness center depending on how they scored on the pacer. The students in the weight room were given 6 exercises to focus on during their time in the weight room. 6th hour was the first class period doing this with, and after letting the students sta...

McConnell-Week 1

What an exciting week! This experience is unlike any other experience I've had thus far in my life, however I can already tell that it is a necessary journey towards an even bigger one which involves educating the future. Going into the week I had a wave of emotions flood over me. I wanted to ensure that my nerves didn't get the best of me and that I could show that I deserve to be the students student teacher, with the hopes that they will respect me just as they do their other teachers. This week has been a week of acclimation, and not just for me. The students were given the syllabus and course overview on day 1, this was done for all 5 class periods (3 Freshman PE and 2 strength and conditioning). Students were then assigned their PE lockers on day 2, and given a PE presentation on day 3 where they learned all about the different PE electives they could take as they progress through the grades. Friday was another day to tie up any loose ends ...
