McConnell-Doidge Week 10
This week was quite a week. Monday I started out my week at Trinity working on my edTPA and I was determined to finish task 1 since I already finished task 2 that would only leave task 3. I had to stay until 6PM but I finished task 1 which felt really good. However, it's quite the testament to just how much time is invested into completing each task.
Tuesday, hit me with some change and that was the transition from my first placement in high school to my second placement elementary. I couldn't stop thinking about how adorable all the little ones are. It is definitely much different from my first experience but I am looking forward to working with all the kids. This week all the classes were just completing the pacer test, so there wasn't any instruction happening this week, but I have a cooperative teamwork week planned for next week that I think the kids will all really enjoy.
Wednesday I was in an all-day meeting at the district office with all the PE teachers in the district that are k-5. The meeting was designated to revamping the curriculum map and standards. This was an interesting experience because I didn't realize how open the district was to change and they basically gave them free rein to change whatever they felt necessary because they feel because they are in the classroom every day they know first hand what works and what doesn't. There were such positive and productive discussions happening it was awesome to be a part of. Standard 2 - Content Area and Pedagogical Knowledge – The competent teacher has in-depth understanding of content area knowledge that includes central concepts, methods of inquiry, structures of the disciplines, and content area literacy. The teacher creates meaningful learning experiences for each student based upon interactions among content area and pedagogical knowledge, and evidence-based practice.
Wednesday afternoon I had my very first teaching interview ever for a Maternity leave position at my old high school. It was a great experience to have an interview, and today I got the call that they wanted to offer me the job in which I happily accepted. So, that is definitely an awesome feeling and I look forward to the position. Standard 9 - Professionalism, Leadership, and Advocacy – The competent teacher is an ethical and reflective practitioner who exhibits professionalism; provides leadership in the learning community; and advocates for students, parents or guardians, and the profession.
As I move into the weekend, I am reminded that again this is a process and that there is a bigger picture. Although I have a very long, exhausting work filled weekend I know it is all for a reason and again as I have said before it will be worth it.
