McConnell-Doidge Week 6

It's crazy how fast this journey has gone already. I am already getting sad to leave my current placement and I am finding those anxious feelings flooding back as I think about change moving into my second placement. However, I am feeling better as I feel I am better prepared then I was my first placement, and have developed into a teacher, instead of just an observer which was how I went into my first placement. I think even though I feel nervous to start my new placement in just a few short weeks. My feelings of last week have calmed down a bit and I did what I intended and found more balance this week in other aspects of my life.
I haven't quite hit the overwhelmed state in terms of the edTPA but I also want to make sure I am perfect when it comes to my video and everything I decide to do for it. I decided I will be filming my lessons next week. I have been planning and am currently in the badminton unit and will be building those skills during the lessons that I am filming for my edTPA. I think in terms of the edTPA it's a very nerve wracking and critical part of this journey it's definitely an added stress and I am hoping to do well and breathe a sigh of relief when I am finished.
I started my journey knowing this is a necessary step towards a bigger picture. I am learning so much through this experience. I am learning about my students, I am learning what works and what doesn't. I am learning about myself. I am learning about how I teach and building a mutual respect among my students. I feel like I have developed a sense of comfort in where I am in this journey. I feel like this is exactly where I am suppose to be at exactly the right time in my life.
This week my freshman classes started Badminton and although I am not an expert at Badminton. I have found this unit already running much smoother than my Basketball unit. In that I am using what worked and what didn't in Basketball, and translating it into my Badminton lessons in terms of how we progress through skill development, rules/strategies, games, and activities. Students were given a pre assessment of skills where they were instructed to watch how their partner performs various shots in Badminton with the goal of being able to improve on those skills when we complete the post assessment. Standard 7 - Assessment – The competent teacher understands and uses appropriate formative and summative assessments for determining student needs, monitoring student progress, measuring student growth, and evaluating student outcomes. The teacher makes decisions driven by data about curricular and instructional effectiveness and adjusts practices to meet the needs of each student. Standard 3 - Planning for Differentiated Instruction – The competent teacher plans and designs instruction based on content area knowledge, diverse student characteristics, student performance data, curriculum goals, and the community context. The teacher plans for ongoing student growth and achievement.
This upcoming week's focus will be my edTPA and I hope everything goes well with my video and instruction.

  1. It sounds as though you have learned a lot over the past weeks and are well prepared to move to the next part of this journey. Good luck with your lesson and as you move to placement two.
